Great Lakes tonnage down by 9-million! Wells Fargo home foreclosures covering bad oil industry debts? Walmart fallout already killing other businesses! : U.S. Job Losses & Closings 16 January 2016

Incomplete list of job loss announcements and shutdowns.

Journal Boating Industry reports “Both the unemployment rate and the number of job openings have remained essentially unchanged month-over-month, and yearly gains are starting to flatten.”  Thom Dammrich, of the National Marine Manufacturers Association, reported mixed news for the boating industry as a whole, going into 2016:  “Fuel prices remain low. Interest rates remain low. There’s nothing negative happening to adversely affect boat sales in the coming year that we can see today……The saltwater category has been growing in double digits…..” but he had a warning We still are not getting entry-level boaters and that’s who buys these boats. That seems to be who’s missing from this equation.”

Alabama: Birmingham based Regions Bank announced the elimination of 260 jobs!

Arkansas: Oil pipe maker Tenaris laid off 1-hundred people, blaming the crashing-n-burning oil industry!

Arizona: Days after non-profit Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen) boasted that it was responsible for creating  jobs in the Phoenix area, several former employees came forth and essentially said ‘bull-shit!’ as they were part of a round of unreported TGen layoffs in October!  A reporter, who just happens to live next door to one of those laid off, did some research and discovered that TGen laid off 12 people and eliminated four vacant positions by the end of 2015. Industry reports say mining company Freeport-McMoRan has begun to layoff at least 8-hundred people at its Green Valley molybdenum Sierrita Mine!  In December a co-founder of the company resigned, after vulture capitalist investor Carl Icahn gained a controlling stake in the company (Icahn is the same guy who recently took over auto parts store Pep Boys).

California:  San Francisco based Too Big to Jail Wells Fargo continues to kill jobs, this time 121 tech jobs across the country!  It’s been revealed that Wells Fargo is actually covering the bad loans of huge oil companies (by literally throwing money at them), this should piss you off because Wells Fargo (a major mortgage company) does not hesitate to foreclose on homeowners!  (Mmmm, is it a case of robbing Peter to pay Paul?)   More proof you can’t blame the internet for brick-n-mortar destruction, dating website Zoosk laid off 40 employees.  In Venice, Superba Snack Bar shutting down at the end of the month.   In Tulare,  a class action lawsuit against Jan & Gail’s Care Homes (“Care Homes”) said newly hired employees were forced to sign an agreement waiving their right to uninterrupted meal periods without notifying employees of their right to revoke the agreement at any time.  However, the trial court ruled subdivision 11(E) of Wage Order 5 allows residential care facilities to force their employees to work on-duty meal periods!

Florida:   In Lake City, Sitel Operating Corporation issued a WARN saying 94 people will be laid off in March.

Idaho: State Department of Health and Welfare hit with lawsuit accusing the Right to Work (you over) agency of hiding the changes in Medicaid healthcare costs for people who face being institutionalized.  The lawsuit accuses the state administrators of pretending that costs will not go up by being placed in a nursing home or hospital, and, of not informing patients of their rights.  This lawsuit comes as state ‘lawmakers’ claimed their version of ObamaCare was saving money!

Kansas: Besides the nine Walmart stores shutting down within The Sunflower State, the QuickTrip fuel station on 13th and Oliver, in Wichita, shutting down after 25 years.  It’s directly and immediately blamed on the shutdowns of nearby Walmarts: “We didn’t know it was going to be affected as dramatically as it has.The other store has suffered much quicker than we anticipated. We’ve been watching it for a while, and we could see that, unfortunately, the sales continue to decline.”-Mike Thornbrugh, QuickTrip

Michigan:  A great indicator of a good, or bad, economy are the lock systems used by shipping around The Great Lakes.   Soo Locks reports shipping for 2015 was down 10%, actual cargo tonnage down 9-million U.S. tons!    California based direct selling company ViSalus is eliminating 87 jobs in Troy by March, officially because their sales have crashed (down 44% in 2013), but it might also have something to do with lawsuits accusing the company of being yet another pyramid scheme.

Minnesota: Sears Holdings shutting down the Dundas Kmart by April, 32 jobs lost.   In Minneapolis, popular Nye’s Polonaise Room shutting down in April because property developers want to build a 29 story apartment complex in its place.

New York:  American Rock Salt laid off 17 employees blaming the unusually warm winter weather in The Empire State.   Cumberland Packing officially issued a shutdown WARN for their Brooklyn Naval Yard Sweet-n-Low ops, 335 jobs lost between May and December!  What automotive industry recovery?  In Plattsburgh, British empire Canada based bus maker Prevost Car issued a shutdown WARN, at least 55 jobs lost in April.  In Schenectady, Granite Services lost their contract with GE Power, 41 jobs lost by March.  NYC based MTV laid off an undisclosed number of people, as reported by those who were laid off.

Ohio: Florida based upscale Ruth’s Chris Steak House shutting down their 17 years old Columbus location in February “due to changing marketplace dynamics”, possibly referring to increased rent.

Oklahoma:  Inola Public Schools laid off four people and literally turned down the lights due to lack of money.  Administrators warn of more cuts.

Texas:  Sears Holdings shutting down the Longview Kmart in April, 60 jobs lost.

Virginia:  After boosting production and bringing new jobs to the area in 2015, Poland based Korona Candles laid off an undisclosed number of people, and reduced hours for employees, claiming it’s a normal seasonal thing.

Washington DC: The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the number of people finding work as information security analysts (cybersecurity) is steadily growing, yet it’s still not enough to meet demand.  Apparently the concept of cybersecurity is too vague, mysterious, or even sinister, for many people trying to figure out what type of career they’re interested in.

WARN=Worker Adjustment & Retraining Notification

15 January 2016: The U.S. economy “…has gone the way of the Dodo Bird.”

Former employees who receive severance are not counted as unemployed

The U.S. Department of Labor (DoL) no longer issues mass layoff reports: “On March 1, 2013, President Obama ordered into effect the across-the- board spending cuts (commonly referred to as sequestration) required by the Balanced Budget and Emergency Deficit Control Act, as amended. Under the order, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) must cut its current budget by more than $30 million, 5 percent of the current 2013 appropriation, by September 30, 2013. In order to help achieve these savings and protect core programs, the BLS will eliminate two programs, including Mass Layoff Statistics, and all ‘measuring green jobs’ products. This news release is the final publication of monthly mass layoff survey data.”

Walmart Hell: U.S. economic bellwether kills 16,000 jobs in 2016! Here’s the list!

15 January 2016 (15:00 UTC-07 Tango 01)/25 Dey 1394/04 Rabi’a’-Thani 1437/06 Ding-Chou (12th month) 4713

Walmart admits (kinda) their sales are so bad they will shutdown 154 stores inside the United States, and another 115 around the world!  The lions share of job killing will take place in the U.S.; 10-thousand people laid off in the home country, while 6-thousand global jobs will be eliminated!   It all starts to collapse at the end of January.

Administrators gave a clue as to which U.S. Walmart stores are shutting down; stores that are within ten miles of another Walmart.

German news media supports Russia’s accusations that Turkey buys oil from Islamic State!

27 November 2015 (04:56 UTC-07 Tango 01)/06 Azar 1394/14 Safar 1437/16 Ding-Hai 10th month 4713

U.S. led NATO member Germany’s news source Bild says Russian President Vladimir Putin is correct when he accuses NATO member Turkey of supporting Islamic State-ISIS-ISIL-DAIISH (DA for al-DAwla, I for al-Islamiya, I for al-Iraq, SH al-SHam [al-Sham=Syria]).

In recent months, there have been reports that there are in Turkey purchasers for smuggled from ISIS oil.

► The prestigious British newspaper “The Guardian” writes that Turkish businessmen had concluded lucrative contracts with the jihadists, after which at least 10 million dollars per week included in the war chests of the killer militia. Turkey has replaced the Syrian regime as the main customer for the controlled by ISIS oil.

► According to a report of the “New York Times” go the US authorities from a monthly oil revenue for ISIS totaling about 40 million dollars.

“The proceeds from the sale of oil are the main source of funding for terrorists; Lose oilfields is a serious blow to ISIS, “says terrorism expert Davis Lewin of the Henry Jackson Society (London) told BILD.

► Time and again were Russian air strikes in Syria claims to the oil infrastructure of ISIS. Recently reported Moscow’s military destruction of 500 tankers. According to information of “Russia Today” was the Kremlin “has long been” indications that the oil goes to Turkey.”-Bild

Russia accuses NATO Turkey of conducting “industrial scale” oil deals with Islamic State!

U.S. supports illegal oil, artifact & human body parts industry!

The Great Reneger: Obama cancels future oil drilling operations!

Idaho Walmart quietly settles discrimination lawsuits! Mormon managers accused of employing Whipping Boys?

25 November 2015, 19:06 UTC-07 Tango 01 (05 Azar 1394/13 Safar 1437/15 Ding-Hai 10th month 4713)

Here in Chubbuck, Idaho, the local Walmart has quietly settled discrimination lawsuits over the years, mostly about work environment connected to ethnic and religious discrimination.

Chubbuck, Idaho, Walmart

According to the U.S. Census Bureau the overwhelming majority of eastern Idahoans surveyed claim to be Mormons.  I’ve had problems maintaining steady employment here since 2006 (I moved here in 1996).  One day, around 2002, I was told by Jack-Mormon co-workers at the Pine Ridge Mall “You have no right to say anything bad about the Mormon Church”, even though they were constantly ‘bad mouthing’ the very same ‘Mormon Church’ they refused to attend!   That was when the mall was still under the original ownership of J. Price Realty.

For a short time in 2004 I worked at the Mormon owned Don Aslett’s Cleaning Center warehouse and was constantly asked about “Why don’t we see you at Ward?”  (for those who are not Mormon and never dealt with Mormons, Ward is their term for Church). Once I told them I wasn’t Mormon they literally cut my work schedual down to zero hours saying “we just don’t have the work to keep you busy”, but as the female Mormon manager was telling me this I could clearly see at least three new employees in loading dock area.

One of the current local former front line managers now suing Walmart told me he believed that non-white and non-mormon low level managers were being used as the old fashioned British empire whipping boys (Whipping boys were established in the English court during the monarchies of the 16th and 17th centuries).  In other words, all problems in the store were not only dumped on them but were also blamed on them.  He told me this before the lawsuit was filed.

But don’t take my word for these claims;  the Wal-Mart Litigation Project has documented at least 99 court judgements (final judgements in cases where the retailer did not settle out of court) against the retailer, but, according to Walmart defender Forbes the retailer is hit with an average of 5-thousand lawsuits every year!  That’s a lot of cases Walmart is settling out of court.

2015:  “The three plaintiffs all worked at Wal-Mart’s Chubbuck store. They allege that they were either fired or forced to quit due to the conduct of defendant Robert Pearson. Their complaint contains six counts against defendants Wal-Mart and Robert Pearson: (1) Race Discrimination; (2) Hostile Work Environment; (3) Retaliation; (4) Family Medical Leave Act Violation; (5) Wrongful Termination; and (6) Americans With Disabilities Act violation.”  In this case attorneys are citing examples involving the Church of Latter Day Saints (Mormons).

2014:  “Alleging racial and disability discrimination, violations of the Family and Medical Leave Act, retaliation and a hostile work environment, three former assistant managers at the Chubbuck Wal-Mart store have filed suit against the company and the store’s manager.

Two of those former employees are also claiming constructive discharge or that conditions were made so intolerable that they were forced to quit.”

2013: (this isn’t about a lawsuit, but…)“If Walmart welcomes truck drivers they forgot to send that memo to the Idaho stores. None I been to in a 200 mile radius allows truck parking and have signs at all of them saying as much. The Pocatello/Chubbuck store has waged a war on trucks in their lots and have tow services on speed dial.”-‘Haight’ comment on Meet The Employee-Centered Company That Could Eventually Take Down Wal-Mart

2011: “A local man was awarded $1.6 million in his lawsuit against Wal-Mart last week after a jury found the retailer, and specifically its Chubbuck store, to be negligent for an incident that left him with a ‘significant physical impairment’”

2010:  “Wal-Mart announced its agreement to settle In re: Wal-Mart Stores Inc Wage and Hour Litigation, a class action lawsuit filed in a California federal court. In the suit, thousands of former employees claimed Wal-Mart didn’t pay them vacation pay and wages as required by California law.”

2009: “Pamela and Donald Ahnemiller, of Florida, are filing suit against Wal-Mart, alleging she was hit in the leg by her shopping cart as a fight ensued in the store between security guards and a shoplifter.”

2004: (not about lawsuits, but low pay for employees affecting taxpayers) “Employment practices at Wal-Mart, the nation’s largest employer with relatively lower labor costs in the retail sector, cost California taxpayers about $86 million annually in public assistance to company workers, according to a study by a University of California-Berkeley research institute.”

(this one is about 25-thousand labor violations discovered by an in-house Walmart investigation, the investigation was done in 2000 but not made public until 2004) “An audit by Wal-Mart Stores Inc. of about 25,000 employees uncovered thousands of labor violations. detailed 1,371 violations of child-labor laws, including minors working too late, too many hours in a day or during school hours. On more than 60,000 occasions, workers missed breaks and on 16,000 they skipped meal times, in violation of most state labor regulations.”

2002:  “Several hundred current or former employees at 18 Oregon Wal-Marts claim they routinely were forced to work unpaid overtime….Managers knew of the unpaid overtime and even ‘edited’ employees’ timecards…”

Martial Law U.S.A. : Walmart hires military contractor to spy on employees!

25 November 2015, 17:35 UTC-07 Tango 01 (05 Azar 1394/13 Safar 1437/15 Ding-Hai 10th month 4713)

Claimed to be the world’s largest military contractor, Lockheed Martin was hired by Walmart, back in 2012, to spy on its own rebellious employees.

That’s according to a report titled  How Walmart Keeps an Eye on Its Massive Workforce The retail giant is Always watching.

Walmart administrators did not hire a military contractor to protect customers from possible terrorist attack, but to prevent cash strapped employees from going on strike!  In April of this year I wrote how Walmart suddenly, without warning, shutdown several stores across the country resulting in several thousands of layoffs.  I discovered that some of those stores had employees that had successfully organized and were about to go on strike, however, Walmart insisted the stores had major “plumbing problems” and would be re-opened as soon as the problems were fixed.

The new Bloomberg Business report is based on more than 1-thousand documents (as part of an upcoming National Labor Relations Board hearing) showing that when Walmart says it’s concerned for security it does not mean your security against a violent attack, it means a ‘terrorist’ strike by slave wage labor Walmart employees.

Walmart suddenly closes 5 U.S. stores, kills 2200 jobs overnight! Is it because the employees went on strike?

“Everybody just panicked and started crying!”– Venanzi Luna, a Walmart store manager in Pico Rivera, California

It’s been revealed that Walmart shutdown five stores, without warning, on 13 April 2015.  About 22-hundred employees are now unemployed!

The stores are located in California, Florida, Oklahoma and Texas. Employees were given a two hours notice!

CNN Money reports say Walmart administrators claim the stores had “plumbing problems”.  However, the CBS TV affiliate in Los Angeles, California, says no required building repair permit has been filed by Walmart.  The ABC TV affiliate in Midland, Texas, reports that Walmart actually turned away a plumbing contractor who responded to claims there was a major plumbing problem in the store.

Walmart administrators claim they have yet to identify the plumbing problems, but say the stores will be shutdown for at least six months!  A Walmart plumbing contractor was interviewed by a Florida TV station and he contradicted the official corporate report: “Even if they had to replace the whole sewer line, it wouldn’t take six months to replace…”– Codi Bauer

Walmart administrators claim they will pay employees a two months severance.  An employee in California suggested the true reason for the shutdowns and mass layoffs: “This is the first store that went on strike. This is the first store in demanding changes for Walmart.”-unnammed Pico Rivera Walmart employee

Walmart issued a WARN saying they will shutdown their huge two story Massapequa store, at least 295 jobs lost!

Walmart revealed it eliminated 210 jobs at its Ontario, Canada, office! The latest round of layoffs are on top of 750 revealed earlier this Spring!

“Please donate food items here so Associates in Need can enjoy Thanksgiving Dinner”-Walmart sign in Ohio

It’s not unusual to hear a cashier ask you if you want to make a donation to some charity, but now retail employees are being asked to make donations to their fellow co-workers!

Ohio news media reporting that the Walmart on Atlantic Boulevard in Canton (apparently taking on the new role of being a food bank charity) is asking its own employees to donate Thanksgiving Day food to its own employees!

I’ve seen this in the past, but only in businesses that paid much more than Walmart and where there was a major pay difference between long time employees and newbies (also in Union shops).  But, I didn’t think any Walmart employees were economically able to make donations.

At the corporate level Walmart admits they pay most of its employees low income wages, even poverty level.  The organization demanding higher pay at Walmart, OUR Walmart, says the Ohio store’s food drive for its own employees is arrogant and insulting: “The company needs to stand up and give them their 40 hours and a living wage, so they don’t have to worry about whether they can afford Thanksgiving!”-Vanessa Ferreira

Maybe Walmart is getting into the charity business?  Consider the signage asking employees to donate to other employees, note that “Associates” and “Need” are capitalized,  “Associates in Need”, as if it is some kind of organization.

An employee at the Canton, Ohio, Walmart revealed these food drives for employees are not new, they’ve been going on for years.  But she proves to be an example of an ignorant Walmart employee, she said people shouldn’t blame Walmart because low paying jobs are the norm across the United States.  She obviously doesn’t realize that Walmart is the corporation that’s responsible for leading the charge to low wages, spending decades destroying other businesses to become the largest employer in the country!

And realize this, Walmart isn’t donating food to its poverty level employees, Walmart is ‘asking’ other low wage employees to donate the food!  If Walmart is truly concerned about its employees then Walmart should be donating the food, or maybe increase their wages!

Another Walmart employee, in Dayton, is more awake: “Walmart sets the precedent for everybody, so if they make changes, everyone would follow suit.”-Scott Stringer

Another Dayton employee said this about working at Walmart after seven years: “Personally, it is difficult for me to stock groceries that I can’t afford at the end of the day.”-Ricki Hahn, planning to go on strike

“That captures Walmart right there. Walmart is setting up bins because its employees don’t make enough to feed themselves and their families.”-Kate Bronfenbrenner, Cornell University Labor Education Research

And since Walmart is the biggest employer in the U.S., that captures the state of the economy for the whole country.  Happy Thanksgiving!

Employee owned WinCo expanding big into Arizona! Delays caused by Arizona aesthetics cops!

01 June 2013 (23:26 UTC-07 Tango 31 May 2013)/22 Rajab 1434/11 Khordad 1391/23 Wu-Wu (4th month) 4711

Since 2010 news out of Arizona talked of Idaho based WinCo opening a store in Gilbert, and a second one in Glendale.

The latest news says WinCo is also opening a massive warehouse near Phoenix, creating as many as 300 good paying jobs, with great benefits!   WinCo has already spent $12 million USD cash for the warehouse property.

The warehouse will be located on 74 acres, and employee owned WinCo has $78 million in cash to spend on the project (although it’s expected actual costs could go over $90 million).  It’s hoped it will be completed in 12 months.  According to my contacts at WinCo it is company policy to try and fund all their new projects with cash.  I’ve also been told that not one WinCo store is losing money!

It’s also company policy not to talk too much about future plans.  That’s because WinCo is an employee owned company, and publicly held crony corporations hate employee owned operations (and so do unions).

WinCo already has Arizona stores in Phoenix (a former Walmart), Mesa and Glendale (both former Costcos).  A new store is under construction for Gilbert (located where a former Dodge dealer was), and another in Glendale.

It was revealed that the Gilbert store was delayed last year when the Gilbert Design Review Board rejected WinCo’s architectural plans, on aesthetic grounds.  The new design was only recently approved by the Gilbert aesthetics cops.

Some advise for WinCo employees:  Don’t be tricked into taking the company public, it’ll be chopped up by Romney style vulture capitalists!

2nd U.S. civil war, Got Ammo? East Idaho running out of bullets!

“Idaho will push back. A question that is rolling around in most Idahoan’s heads right now is, what part of ‘shall not be infringed’ don’t they get?”-Scott Bedke, Idaho Speaker of the House

The threat being made against our Constitutional right to defend ourselves with whatever is the weapon of choice by today’s military/police (it ain’t about hunting or collecting or any of that BS) is creating a severe shortage of ammunition.

“People are getting what they can while they can still do it before those rights are stripped away.”-Mike Visser, instructor at gun store in Wyoming

Here in eastern Idaho, Walmarts started rationing bullets back in January, and now they’ve run out!

Many anti-gun rights (and therefore anti-American, anti-Constitution) activists are calling for ammo control laws, like background checks, and serial numbers for bullets!

There’s also federal bills being proposed to go after internet ammo sales.

In Idaho people and businesses are fighting back.

This past weekend in Boise, Cabelas sporting goods store gave $25.00 gift cards to anyone who joined the National Rifle Association (NRA).

Recently the Red Coat British media reported on a group of Idahoans who bought 20 acres (8 hectares) and plan to build a city where it’s mandatory for everyone to own “…an AR-15 rifle, 1,000 rounds of ammunition and enough supplies to withstand a collapse of society.”  The Citadel will eventually have 3,000 acres (1214 hectares)!

Then there’s Mormon Glenn Beck (with connections to east Idaho), who said “…Glenn believes that he can bring the heart and the spirit of Walt’s early Disneyland ideas into reality. Independence, USA wouldn’t be about rides and merchandise, but would be about community and freedom. The Marketplace would be a place where craftmen and artisan could open and run real small businesses and stores. The owners and tradesmen could hold apprenticeships and teach young people the skills and entrepreneurial spirit that has been lost…”-Glenn Beck website

Even law enforcement in Idaho is pro-gun rights: “We, the sheriffs of the State of Idaho support the right of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms and we oppose any intrusion upon those rights.”-Idaho Sheriff’s Association (ISA) statement

However, the ISA also said it was up to courts to determine if a law was unconstitutional or not.  They also want to see improvements in mental health services, at a time when lawmakers are slashing and burning such services.

School District 25, in Bannock County, recently approved the installation of gun safes, so school cops can bring their rifles to work.  It’s not the only school district in Idaho to due so.

To hear what President Barack Obama said in his State of the Union, on 12 February 2013, it’s clear that the United States is more divided now than when Obama gave his first State of the Union address four years ago.
