The purging began under the Bush Jr regime. I was ‘purged’ from the Idaho Army National Guard in November 2003. Officially the discharge papers (and RE code) say it was because I was physically unfit for duty, despite the fact I had the third highest APFT score in my unit that year! I believe I was really ‘purged’ because I criticized the Bush Jr administration one time too many about their new War on Terror (once while in formation as acting platoon sergeant). Within just a few months of my criticisms of the Bush Jr regime I was demoted to E-5 and told not to bother trying to re-enlist when my enlistment expired in November 2003. For about six months I did try to get re-enlisted, I was literally passed from unit retention NCO to recruiter after recruiter. Finally, a recruiter in Pocatello told me, literally, “You don’t need to keep calling us. If we have a need for you we will call you.”
A couple months after being told that I received my official Honorable discharge documents, and discovered I had been flagged for being unfit.
The Idaho National Guard has deployed numerous times to Iraq and Afghanistan. I have multiple combat MOSes, I’ve lived in the Middle East, and I wasn’t needed? I don’t agree with the Bush-Clinton-Bush-Obama dynasty, but there is a kind-o-brotherhood among military personnel that transcends whatever is the political climate of their country, and I felt guilty for not being able to deploy with my former unit (although I know there are some who were glad to see me ‘purged’).
The purge has been ongoing since 11 September 2001, Obama is just accelerating it!
