Corporate Incompetence: TEPCo says Cesium building up inside reactor buildings, could be from mini explosions!

Tokyo Electric Power Company reporting that cesium levels inside Reactor 2 building are shooting up.  The latest measurements showed 65 times current government emergency limits for reactor buildings.

TEPCo has been monitoring airborne radiation levels inside Fukushima Daiichi’s reactor buildings, using robots, because radiation levels became too high for humans.

TEPCo says the build up of cesium-134 could be from steam and explosions from within the reactor.  But they admit they’re not sure why the levels are increasing, and will continue their investigations.

Why didn’t they do what Bill Nye the Science Guy said, and pave the thing over?

Government Incompetence: Radioactive beef more widespread than first thought, 75,000 becquerels of Cesium detected!

Officials with Fukushima Prefecture say the hay that cows were feed in Miniami-soma City, is contaminated with 75,000 becquerels per kilogram of cesium.

They’re still waiting for results of well water tests.

As a result of yesterday’s test results, Miniami-soma City is ordering all residents get tested for internal radiation contamination.  So far people from two areas of the city have levels of contamination that call for evacuations.

The contaminated cows got through radiation checks, before being shipped to slaughter, because only the outside of the cows were tested.  It turns out they were contaminated internally, because of the highly radioactive hay they ate.

Now more beef in a far off city have been found to be contaminated.  Officials in Shizuoka City, more than 300 kilometers (187 miles) from Minami-soma City, decided to check their meat packing factories.  They found that beef, bought back on June 10, is contaminated with 1,998 becquerels of radioactive cesium per kilogram (the national safe limit is 500).

To make matters worse, most of that beef went to local restaurants, or retailers.   So far at least five prefectures have found contaminated beef.

A prefecture in Japan, is like a county in the U.S.   A region in Japan, is like a state in the U.S.

Government Incompetence: Tokyo officials admit Radioactive beef was sold in markets, can’t find source of contamination!

A couple of days ago Tokyo officials reported that cows from Fukushima Prefecture tested positive for high levels of cesium contamination.  Originally officials said none of the beef was sold in Tokyo markets.  Now they admit radioactive beef was sold.

Beef from a total of 11 cows, from a Minami Soma city farm, were tested.  But it turns out that beef from six cows, from the same farm, were not tested, and were sold in Tokyo and Tochigi markets.

Some of the contaminated beef tested for as much as 3,200 becquerels per kilogram of cesium.  The national safe limit is 500.

Officials from the Fukushima Prefecture have inspected the Minami Soma farm.  They discovered that the cows had been kept indoors, along with their feed.  A skin test on the cows, prior to shipment for slaughter, showed no radiation contamination.   Water for the cows came from a well, testing is being done on the water, as well as the feed.

Officials in Tokyo are now back tracking the shipping route used to deliver the beef.  There are concerns that somewhere along the route the beef became contaminated.  It’s also possible that the beef became contaminated during the butchering process.  This could mean that extremely high levels of cesium are being emitted, probably from the damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant.

Government Incompetence: Japanese beef contaminated with Cesium!

Tokyo officials say they found beef, shipped in from Fukushima Prefecture, is contaminated with high levels of cesium.

On 08 July 2011 the beef tested positive for 2,300 becquerels per kilogram of cesium, the national safe limit is 500 becquerels per kilogram.

The beef came from cows raised in Minami Souma, in Fukushima Prefecture.

Japan’s Health Ministry says this is the first time such high levels of radiation showed up in beef.  They are now requesting the six prefectures around the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, to increase testing their cows for radiation.

Government & Corporate Incompetence: More Japanese tea farms contaminated with Cesium!

Another tea growing prefecture is now contaminated with dangerous levels of cesium.  Tochigi prefectural government says 1,810 becquerels per kilogram of cesium is contaminating the harvest, piked earlier this week.

The levels are three times the safe limits set by the Tochigi government.  Tochigi Prefecture is 160 kilometers (99.4 miles) from the damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant.

This latest prefecture is part of a growing list of prefectures that have stopped tea shipments because of cesium.  Others include Chiba, Kanagawa and Shizuoka prefectures. Shizuoka is Japan’s largest tea producer.

Japanese children contaminated with Cesium 134!

A group of concerned parents, not happy with government response, formed an organization called The Fukushima Network for Saving Children from Radiation.  They took urine samples from 10 kids, from elementary to high school age, and had a French company test them.

The result showed that all the kids are internally contaminated with cesium 134.  An eight year old girl has 1.13 becquerels of cesium-134 per liter.  The children live in Fukushima City, which is 60 kilometers (37 miles) from the damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant.

The Fukushima Network for Saving Children from Radiation says this is proof that radiation is continuing to be emitted by the damaged nuke plant, and it is spreading.

Radioactive Cesium still being found at Japanese waste incenerators!

A few months ago it was reported that waste incinerators (which is how Japan handles its trash) were finding high levels of radiation in the ash of the burned trash.  The disaster at Fukushima Daiichi was blamed.

Today, waste incinerators as far south as Tokyo are still emitting cesium through their exhaust stacks.  One incinerator in Edogawa ward registered 9,740 becquerels of cesium per kilogram!  The incinerator handles only household trash.  This is an indicator that cesium is still being spewed into the air, and it’s settling as far south as Tokyo.

Radiation spreading in Japan, thanks to Mother Nature

NHK (Nippon Housou Kyoukai/Japan Broadcasting Corporation) discovered, through random interviews with local officials throughout Japan, that cesium is showing up all over, thanks to rain.

22 of Japan’s 47 prefectures (states, or glorified counties) have been testing their soil.  16 found their soil is contaminated with cesium.  Some areas are as far south as Osaka, which is about 350 miles away from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant.

Local officials believe the cesium is being spread by clouds that sweep through the Fukushima area then rain on other parts of Japan.

The area with the highest cesium levels, in their soil, is Fukushima, currently at 447,000 becquerels per kilogram.  Tokyo has 55,000 becquerels.

NHK reported that Japan has no guidelines for dealing with radiation contamination in soil.

Cesium contamination building in Japan, tea harvests contaminated!

In Shizuoka Prefecture, about 300 km (186 miles) away from the damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuke plant, cesium contamination has continued to build up.  Now tea production has been halted.

On 10 June 2011, cesium levels on tea leaves hit 679 becquerels per kilogram.  The official limit is 500 becquerels.  The local government ordered a halt to tea shipments.  Tea is Shizuoka Prefecture’s main industry.

Last month cesium levels were 460 becquerels.  The latest readings show cesium is continuing to be spewed by the Fukushima Daiichi nuke plant.
