What Economic Recovery? Despite Mexican Civil War, Mexico is the number one destination of U.S. citizens escaping the United States

“We’ve seen an increase of almost 40% in the number of American citizens making inquiries about the requirements for moving to Mexico. There are definitely more Americans emigrating to Mexico…”-Mexican Consulate in New York

In 2009, Mexico became the number one country of choice for U.S. citizens trying to escape the economic and political madness of the United States.

In the Fall of 2008 the one millionth U.S. citizen established residency in Mexico.  There are more U.S. citizens living in Mexico, than in Canada or the United Kingdom.

Foremost are the retirees, who can have a higher standard of living in Mexico than they could in the U.S.

Then there were the professionals who were sent here by their companies or were here on business.

Now there are people looking to live the ‘American Dream’ in Mexico: “My wife and I are both self-employed, so while we don’t make as much money as some of our peers, one of our currencies is freedom and the ability to work anywhere. We keep the focus on results with our clients, not where or how the work gets done. Two recurring themes from all the expatriates we meet here are opportunity and reinvention.”-John and Nicole Larson from Minnesota

A New York couple moved to Mexico just to have a baby, because of Mexico’s socialized health care system: “Top of the list is that the economic benefits of being here allow us both to spend far more time with our son Johnny than we would be allowed if we lived the same style of life back in New York.  We would both have to work full time and our child would be raised with home help and daycare. To be able to personally care for him and watch his daily development is a luxury that we fully appreciate, and it seems a more natural and beneficial way to live.”-John Rogers, moved to Merida, Mexico

It’s not just U.S. citizens, but Canadians and English speaking Europeans who are moving to Mexico, so much so that the Merida Literary Salon has been established, as well as the Merida English Language Library.

What Economic Recovery? Canada says U.S. citizens moving to the Great White North has doubled

“I’m looking for a quiet, calm, sane, civilized society to start the next phase of my life.”-Michael, from Michigan

Canadian officials say the number of U.S. citizens applying for temporary work visas doubled between 2008 and 2010.

Since the beginning of 2010 nearly 30,000 U.S. citizens moved to Canada, they make up the second-largest group of temporary workers in Canada, behind only Filipinos.

Think the people of the United States lead the world in hatred of Immigrants? Nope, try moving to tiny Belgium!

In a survey done by Ipsos Mora y Araujo, citizens of 24 countries were asked how they viewed immigrants.  The United States did not lead the way with immigrant haters, still more than half of U.S. citizens hate immigrants.

The Ipsos survey asked various questions regarding immigrants, but basically most European and American residents don’t like immigrants, which is ironic considering that most European and American countries are made up of immigrants.

The country that leads the way in hatred of immigrants is Belgium, with 72% of respondents saying immigrants are bad for their country.  Argentina, United Kingdom and United States are on the same wavelength, with about 61% of their citizens hating immigrants.

50% of Australians and 41% of Canadians say immigrants make it harder to find a job.  One Canadian respondent explained their view of immigration as ‘yes, you can move here, but just not where I live’.

So where to move, now that it’s becoming clear that the United States isn’t a place where you can achieve your dreams?

47% of Brazilians say immigrants are good for their economy, and 49% say immigrants make Brazil an interesting place to live.  Could explain Brazil’s exploding population numbers.  Brazil now has the 5th largest population in the world.  Officially 192 million people live in Brazil, that’s almost equal to all the other South American country’s populations combined!

Global Economic War: China slashes U.S. Agriculture imports

“A seasonal drop in exports to China was expected…But the magnitude of the fall has been greater than anticipated.”-U.S. Department of Agriculture

According to a September 1 report by Agrimoney, China has slashed its purchasing of U.S. farm products.  Not by a little, by a whole lot.

Up until three months ago China was spending a monthly average of $2.5 billion, yes, $2.5 billion per month.  But starting three months ago China slashed it to $800 million per month.

Historically the United States has been the biggest supplier of farm products to China, but, if current sales continue the U.S. will end the year tied with Canada.

Global Economic War: Argentina thrashes the U.S. as Corn supplier to Columbia, Canada to take over as main wheat supplier

According to a report by Agrimoney, Argentina has replaced the U.S. as the main supplier of corn to Colombia, and probably in the near future Canada will do the same with wheat.

U.S. corn exports to Columbia have crashed: In 2007 the U.S. supplied 96% of Columbia’s corn.  In 2010, the United States supplied a meesley 19%!!!

But don’t blame Argentina for crashing U.S. farm exports, Canada is about to kick the United States of America’s ass as well.

Columbia and Canada signed a free trade agreement on August 15.  Within ten days of the deal wheat buyers in Columbia ordered 125,000 tons of Canadian wheat!!!

On top of that, Nutresa, Columbia’s biggest cookie and pasta maker announced that their main source of wheat will now be Canada!!!

Corporate Incompetence: Google knew those Canadian Pharmacy adds were illegal, ran them anyway

Google has agreed to pay $500 million in fines, for running illegal Canadian pharmacy adds.

The U.S. Department of Justice, said it is illegal to mail prescription drugs from outside the country.  Many of the Canadian online pharmacies did not require a prescription either.

Google officials admit they knew what they were doing could get them into trouble, so they set up a fund to pay any fines, if they were caught.

Canadian citizen says Rebels trying to kill him, Canadian goverment says too bad!

“Given the volatile security situation, the Canadian Embassy in Tripoli has suspended operations until further notice.”-Canadian government statement

A man from Ottawa, Canada, says Libyan rebels are threatening to kill him.  Mahdi Nazemroaya, an independent journalist working for Russian and Arab media, is holded up in the Rixos Hotel.

His mother has been begging Canadian officials to do something to get her son out of Libya, they have refused.

Even Nazemoroaya’s alma mater, University of Ottawa, tried to get the Canadian government to help: “To call the government when a friend is in trouble, and hear ‘too bad so sad’, that is disappointing.”- Mireille Gervais, student appeal center

Government Incompetence: Obama says he wants jobs for the U.S., but spends $1.1 million on a Canadian made bus

It’s called Ground Force One, a $1.1 million dollar bus made in Canada, and used by the Obama administration.

There’s also a Ground Force Two, because your government bought two of these behemoth buses.  And your taxes paid for them!

Ground Force Two is actually being called Stagecoach. But don’t blame Obama, the second bus will be used to transport the Republican candidate for the 2012 election campaigns.

Officially the public is being told the buses came from a Tennessee company, but ABC News found out they were built in Canada, and only modified in Tennessee.

Don’t want to die? Stay out of hospitals in Canada, United States and Europe! Another reason for increased health care costs

“If you were admitted to hospital tomorrow in any country … your chances of being subjected to an error in your care would be something like 1 in 10. Your chances of dying due to an error in health care would be 1 in 300.”-Professor Liam Donaldson, World Health Organization envoy

The United Nations released a study saying that hospitals in the ‘western’ world are sure places to catch a deadly disease, or die from mistakes made by medical personnel.

The UN World Health Organization discovered that your chances of dying in a hospital, by medical errors, are far greater than dying in a plane crash.

More interestingly, Canada takes the number one spot for worst hospital related infections, at an 11.6% infection rate.  The European Union has a 7% rate, followed by the United States with 4.5%.

But lets put that U.S. rate of 4.5%, which sounds low, into real numbers.  According to the research 1.7 million infections are acquired in U.S. hospitals, which leads to 100,000 deaths each year.  That’s 100,000 people in the U.S. being killed because of hospital uncleanliness.

Catching an infection while in the hospital means a longer stay and more treatment.  The study suggests that the increased infection rate while being in the hospital, along with medical mistakes, are partly to blame for increasing medical costs.

To be sure most health care systems around the world are in trouble, but, what surprised the WHO researchers is that the developed ‘western’ world has made no progress in improving medical care inside hospitals.  Former United Kingdom chief medical officer Liam Donaldson, said this: “It shows that health care in general worldwide still has a long way to go.  Health care has not achieved the level of safety of many other high-risk industries.”
