Global Food Crisis: No more Salmon from South America?

The salmon industry in the South American country of Chile is in trouble due to crashing market prices for farmed salmon.  Five of Chile’s salmon farms say lost the equivalent of $153-million USD in the first nine months of 2015!

Now salmon farms are drastically cutting back on production, the latest reports out of Chile say as many as 2-thousand 1-hundred employees will be laid off in the first quarter of 2016!  One salmon farmer already laid off 2-hundred employees in the last half of 2015!

Most of the frozen salmon products sold in U.S. grocery stores come from South America, so get ready for price increases all you happy U.S. shoppers.
