U.S. job losses & store closings 19 March 2014: Government fails to dole out what it collects in school taxes, is it a conspiracy to kill education? 39% of Utica property owners being killed by unfair taxes! Growing E-commerce equals declining jobs!

Incomplete list of announced closings & layoffs.

Arizona: In Tucson, fitness clothing store ReActivate shutdown.

Arkansas: In Salem, J and P Flash Market Convenience Store shutdown without notice.   Company officials said sales were dropping, but customers dispute that claim.

Colorado:  In Denver, Kevin Taylor Restaurant Group shutdown two restaurants; Restaurant Kevin Taylor and Prima Ristorante.

Connecticut: Foxwoods Resort Casino laid off 65 employees.  The resort has seen a steady decline in revenue since 2011.  Legal drugs pusher XPect Discounts shutting down two pharmacies, in Milford and Cromwell.   The company closed stores in 2013 and 2012.

Florida: Broward County School District shutting down three charter schools (including The Obama Academy for Boys) for the 2014-15 school year.  This is on top of the 12 charter schools the district has already killed!  This time school officials say the charter schools being closed broke their contracts, by not operating at the locations stipulated in the contracts, and, they failed to get permits (they were apparently permitted as day care centers, not schools).  In Altamonte Springs, Sprint killed 400 call center jobs!  In Tampa, Time Warner shutdown a service center, 100 jobs lost!  Back in 2011 Time Warner promised they would hire 500 employees, it never happened.

Georgia: Another internet company killing their own jobs.  Atlanta based restaurant coupon & review site ScoutMob laid off about 20 employees.  Co-founder Michael Tavani said “Our Shoppe e-commerce growth is causing us to refocus the business and skill-set around that product.”  In other words more internet e-commerce equals less jobs.

Illinois: Belleville School District laid off 12 teachers, as a “precaution”.  School officials say the state and federal governments have not been paying what they are supposed to pay under school funding laws.  As an example; the state of Illinois still owes the school district $2.1-million USD! Taxpayers need to get pissed and ask their elected officials “why?”

Indiana: In Fort Wayne, Old National Bancorp laid off 41 employees, and blamed it on their takeover of Tower Financial.

Kentucky: Two Shoney’s restaurants, in Henderson and Owensboro, shutting down.  It’s blamed on a franchise dispute and court fees.

Maine:  The University of Maine wants to kill 165 to 255 jobs!  University officials say it will have to be, if the state government goes through with draconian budget cuts.  In Fort Kemp, another clothing maker going down.  Officials with tax sucking Creative Apparel announced that their so called ‘temporary’ layoffs are now “permanent”.  More than 80 jobs lost.  It’s blamed on reduced military spending for uniforms.

Maryland: In Silver Spring, after 64 years Dale Music shutting down in June.

Massachusetts: In Brooklyn, after more than 50 years Oriental Rug Galleries shutting down, just as soon as they can find somebody to take over the building.

Michigan: Flint School District is considering getting rid of all 41 administrators for the 2014-15 school year.  It all depends on the actual student population for the upcoming year, Flint has been hemorrhaging students.  So far four school have been closed and hundreds of jobs lost.  In Saint Johns, Kmart announced they are finally shutting down in April.  Apparently the store has been on the shutdown list since 2011.

New Jersey: British empire based school book publisher Pearson laid off 68 Yankee employees.  It’s part of their plan to make digital ‘books’ only.  In 2013, Pearson killed 3300 jobs around the World! Pearson is probably one of the reasons evil empire Queen’s English is being taught in U.S. schools, instead of proper U.S. English.

New York:  Food supplier ConAgra announced it will kill 425 jobs when it shuts down operations in Dunkirk and Fredonia, in 2015!  Buffalo School District warned of layoffs for the 2014-15 school year, as many as 390 jobs could be culled! They’re short nearly $50-million.  Teachers in the district are pissed because in the past they’ve taken huge pay cuts, by as much as $15-thousand per teacher!  Utica City School District wants to kill 90 jobs, due to a shortfall of $6.4-million, and that’s with an increase in student population and taxes.  Property owners are pissed because the district (along with the city) has been jacking up their taxes, and it’s still not enough!  However, one district official revealed that 61% of elitist property owners are exempted from paying taxes!  The other 39% are burdened with funding local government.  Sounds like a f*cked up place to live.  In Rochester, Corix Utilities shutting down in May, 67 jobs lost.  They lost their contract.  Obama Care killed nursing home Blossom South, 140 jobs lost!   In Elmsford, Sprint shutdown a call center, 154 jobs lost!

North Carolina: Charlotte based Too Big to Jail Bank of America laying off at least 5% of its global trading and investment banking employees.  Bank officials refused to comment as to why.  Hartigan’s Irish Pub shut down.  The owner blamed safety issues with the 100 years old building.

Ohio: In Mansfield, CenturyLink shutting down their office and killing 82 jobs by June.

Texas: In Midland, Walter’s family restaurant shutdown.  The restaurant owner blames the greedy property owner for jacking up the rent.

Virginia: The last grocery store in Parksley shutdown without notice!    20 employees of Fresh Pride now unemployed.   The company that owns Fresh Pride, Camellia Food Stores, has a history of shutting down stores without notice, even on the day after Xmas.

Wisconsin: Blackhawk Technical College laid off 11 employees.  It’s blamed on reduced tax funding.  In Middleton, AMerican SuperConductor (AMSC) shutting down their factory, and killing 15% of their jobs across the country.  The company has been making cuts since 2011.  In Appleton, reports that after 21 years supplier to home beer, wine and soda pop makers, Homebrew Market, shutdown.

16 – 18 March 2014: “It’s not worth it anymore!”

The U.S. Department of Labor (DoL) doesn’t count the hundreds of layoffs involving less than 50 people each, in its mass layoff reports. It also doesn’t count all the little ‘mom & pop’ businesses that shut down.
